What is Team 1280 up to?

FIRST

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is the non-profit organization that organizes events we participate in.

What is FIRST all about?

Meet the Team

Team 1280 is a lively team of Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and ex-students from San Ramon Valley High School, in Danville, California.

Who are we?

Achievements

Team 1280 has been participating in FIRST events for 6 years, making many friends and learning much in the process.

What have we accomplished?

Sponsors

Team 1280 is indebted to our kind sponsors for financing our program.

Who supports us?

Programming

Our robots must be programmed to operate both autonomously and under operator control.

How do we program our robots?

Fabrication

We manufacture parts for our robot and put them together in our workshop.

How do we make our robots?

Animation

3-d animations are produced by our team members to promote safety and interest others in technology.

How are our animations made?

Computer Aided Design

Our team designs our robot ahead of time in 3D CAD software to accelerate the fabrication process and avoid mistakes.

How do we design our robots?

Website

Our website software and content is entirely student created. Team 1280 is offering website help to any team that needs it.

How do we manage our website?

The Game

Each year, FIRST presents a new game for the FIRST Robotics Competition. This year, it's Lunacy.

Competition Tracker

Team 1280 is experimenting with a competition tracking system that works with text messaging. Features include a chatroom projected in our pit area, on-demand statistics and live game updates.

Build Period Nearing End

After almost 6 weeks of diligently working on the robot, Team 1280 is rushing to finish before the deadline. The robot is nearing completion, but still needs the lift to be designed and put on, an autonomous mode, AND practice with the Drive Team. Members of Team 1280 are working until the last minute making sure everything is satisfactory. See you at Silicon Valley!

Welcome to the New Year!

FIRST Kickoff was on Saturday, January 9th 2010. This year's new game is Breakaway. So far we have brainstormed about what the robot should look like, and what it should do. After many hours spent on CAD, we have successfully fabricated the frame and have built/tested several prototypes for the mechanism. More team updates/pictures to come soon!

Silicon Valley Regional

Team 1280 has just returned from our recent trip to San Jose. Together with alliance members Team 192 (Gunn Robotics) and Team 1868 (The Space Cookies), we finished second in this very competitive regional.

Here are some video highlights of the regional event!

"Watching Paint Dry"

Three days and 10 or so pizzas later, we have finished programming our autonomous modes. Dr. Brooks likes to call the trial-and-error process "watching the paint dry".

Our autonomous modes this year are based on dead reckoning, which we hope will be all that is necessary to keep orbit balls out of our trailer!

"Now Drive It"

Our team has been working hard this week; just this Monday, we had no robot. It took us all week to assemble the components we had built, but we fired up the robot for the first time tonight!

Handling the robot on the Regolith was nearly impossible initially, but after scaling down the joystick sensitivity we fared much better.
