What is Team 1280 up to?

FIRST

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is the non-profit organization that organizes events we participate in.

What is FIRST all about?

Meet the Team

Team 1280 is a lively team of Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and ex-students from San Ramon Valley High School, in Danville, California.

Who are we?

Achievements

Team 1280 has been participating in FIRST events for 6 years, making many friends and learning much in the process.

What have we accomplished?

Sponsors

Team 1280 is indebted to our kind sponsors for financing our program.

Who supports us?

Programming

Our robots must be programmed to operate both autonomously and under operator control.

How do we program our robots?

Fabrication

We manufacture parts for our robot and put them together in our workshop.

How do we make our robots?

Animation

3-d animations are produced by our team members to promote safety and interest others in technology.

How are our animations made?

Computer Aided Design

Our team designs our robot ahead of time in 3D CAD software to accelerate the fabrication process and avoid mistakes.

How do we design our robots?

Website

Our website software and content is entirely student created. Team 1280 is offering website help to any team that needs it.

How do we manage our website?

The Game

Each year, FIRST presents a new game for the FIRST Robotics Competition. This year, it's Lunacy.

Competition Tracker

Team 1280 is experimenting with a competition tracking system that works with text messaging. Features include a chatroom projected in our pit area, on-demand statistics and live game updates.

Week 1 Summary

user posted image

Week 1 of the build period is over and we have settled on a general robot design. The team is currently taking a trial-and-error approach to finding out the best ball delivery mechanism. A working pickup mechanism has been prototyped.

Dr Brooks is learning the ropes of the new programming set up, which he estimates will take another two weeks for us to be familiar with.

The website is nearing completion, and we are working on a few separate side projects.

Site upgraded

The Team 1280 site is now running on the third generation of our student-designed content management systems, Reactr.

- MOD_REWRITE support
- Advanced MVC architecture
- Advanced session handling
- Dual-layer, rank-based permission system

While Reactr is still under construction, interested parties may request for a copy in the comments.
